Our story
The Anglo Congolese Association (ACA) is a non-profit organization founded in 2015 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It was established to connect with both developed and emerging English-speaking communities, while empowering young Congolese eager to learn English and expand their social, economic, and professional opportunities—particularly across the Great Lakes region.
Over the past decade, ACA has collaborated with public and private educational institutions to promote English as a vital communication tool and to empower youth through education and entrepreneurship. Through these initiatives, young people are equipped to drive positive change at the grassroots level, while schools benefit from enhanced learning resources, including innovative programs such as English club competitions.
With support from the U.S. Embassy in Kinshasa and a private American donor, ACA has established a network of over 70 school-based English clubs, reaching approximately 5,000 secondary school students in Bukavu. These clubs not only strengthen language skills but also explore students’ motivations for learning English, while encouraging educators to develop practical, locally relevant solutions to broader social challenges.
Today, ACA serves as a dynamic hub for the aspirations of a new generation of young Congolese. It fosters collaboration, mutual support, and the exchange of best practices for sustainable development. By integrating English learning, climate change awareness, and youth skills development, the organization continues to strengthen communities and empower youth—driving positive and lasting transformation across the country.
